The Sun Sets. Your Solar Doesn't Have To.

Your panels do their best work while the sun is up, but most households use the most power after dark, when everyone is home, the oven is on, and the air conditioning is running. A battery lets you store the solar you have already paid for and use it through the evening, so you pull less from the grid and move closer to a net-zero bill.

Sustainable Solar and Energy Solutions installs battery storage in two ways: a brand new solar + battery combo for homes starting fresh, and a battery retrofit that adds storage to an existing solar system (a hybrid inverter may be required depending on your current setup). We work with homeowners across the Gold Coast, Northern NSW and Brisbane who want lower night-time grid use, families with busy evenings, and anyone keen to make the most of available rebates or add optional outage support where the system design allows.

We’re Experts in Storing Solar

We have spent more than 15 years installing solar across the region, and the same care goes into every battery job. Here is what you can expect when you work with us.

Personalised Consultations

We start with a proper meet and greet, on-site, to understand how your household uses power. Your battery is then sized around your real day and night usage, not a one-size-fits-all package.

In-House Installers, No Subcontractors

The team that quotes your job is the team that installs it. Nothing is handed off to a subcontractor, so the workmanship and accountability stay with us from start to finish.

15-Year Workmanship Warranty

Every installation is backed by a 15-year workmanship warranty, installed to manufacturer requirements and Australian standards, so you can have confidence in how the system is put together.

Post-Installation Support and Optional Yearly Servicing

We do not disappear after handover. You get ongoing after-install support, plus an optional yearly service to keep your system running at its best for the long haul.

Two Ways to Add Battery Storage

Whether you are starting from scratch or building on solar you already own, there is a path that suits your home.

Solar + Battery Combo (New Install)

We work out your current power use, then size the solar and battery together so the system feeds your home through the day, and the battery reaches a full charge ready for night-time use. Monitoring setup and a full handover are included. This pairs naturally with a new residential solar installation if you do not have panels yet.

Battery Retrofit (Add to Existing Solar)

We review your bill and confirm your existing system produces enough solar to feed the battery size you want. If your system is reasonably recent with a decent panel count, it may only need a hybrid inverter and battery to complete the job. We book the install, handle the necessary paperwork and set up monitoring for you.

Quality Battery Brands We Trust

We recommend brands based on your goals: bill reduction, monitoring preferences, expandability, and outage expectations.

Choosing the Right Battery System for Your Home

The right battery comes down to how you use power, what you want it to achieve, and how your current system is set up. Here are the main things we look at together.

Energy Consumption Assessment

We review your day versus night usage and your household patterns so the battery is sized correctly. Get this right, and your battery does the work you actually need it to.

New Install vs Retrofit Suitability Check

If you already have solar, we can confirm whether your setup needs a hybrid inverter to support a battery. Where an older system is approaching its later years, we will also weigh up whether a brand new solar and battery install, while current rebates apply, makes better long-term sense than retrofitting.

Backup and Outage Expectations

What a battery does in a grid outage depends on your system design and configuration. Where the sun is still out, the system can keep working between your panels, inverter and battery, and limiting use to essential appliances helps it last longer. Monitoring lets you track available power and manage usage while the grid is down.

Make the Most of Battery Storage

Storing your own solar gives you more control over your power and your bills. Here is what that looks like day to day.

  • Better Control Over Your Bills

Use stored solar at night to cut your reliance on grid power during peak periods.

  • Use More of Your Solar After Dark

Store the excess your panels make through the day and put it to work once the sun goes down.

  • Greater Energy Independence

Lean less on your energy provider, with stored power ready when you need it.

  • Monitoring Visibility

Track available power and manage your usage during high demand or an outage.

  • Flexible Payment Options

Finance through ZipMoney makes a battery upgrade easier to manage.

How We Size Your Battery

A battery that is too small leaves you short at night. Too big and you have paid for capacity you never use. Here is the thinking behind getting it right.

  • Your night-time usage: Homes with busy evenings, cooking, heating and cooling need more stored power to get through.
  • Your goal: Sizing for everyday bill reduction looks different to sizing for outage resilience.
  • New install versus retrofit: For a retrofit, we confirm your solar produces enough to fill the battery size you want.
  • How we confirm it: An on-site assessment and a look at your recent bills give us the real numbers.

Your New Battery System, Step by Step

Getting More Value From Battery Storage

Beyond the day-to-day savings, a well-sized battery adds long-term value and independence to your home. A few things are worth understanding.

Eligible Rebates and Incentives

A federal battery rebate is currently available, though the amount reduces over time and is set at the government's discretion. We will confirm your eligibility and the current rebate value during your on-site assessment, so you know exactly where you stand before committing.

Self-Consumption vs Exporting

Feed-in tariffs are far lower than they once were. Storing your solar and using it yourself usually delivers more value than exporting it, depending on your tariff and how you use power.

Long-Term Financial Benefits

A battery can lower your ongoing bills and improve your energy independence, which is increasingly valuable as grid prices move around.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?

In most cases, yes. Adding a battery to an existing system usually works best with a compatible hybrid inverter, though it can sometimes be done in other ways depending on your setup. We review your current system during the site visit and confirm the right approach for you.

  • Do I need a hybrid inverter for a retrofit?

Not always. A retrofit can be done in more than one way, and the right method depends on your existing system. If your panels are recent and there are enough of them, a hybrid inverter and battery may be all that is needed to complete the job.

  • What battery brands do you use?

We install Sungrow, Sigenergy, GoodWe, BYD, Fronius and Tesla. We recommend a brand based on your goals, whether that is bill reduction, monitoring, expandability or outage support, rather than pushing a single product.

  • What is the warranty on batteries?

Most of the brands we use currently carry a 10-year battery warranty. On top of that, your installation is covered by our 15-year workmanship warranty for the way the system is put together.

  • Does the battery work in a grid outage?

With the right setup, yes. The main limitation is whether your backup cabling can be configured to your main switchboard. Where it can, and where the sun is still out, the system can keep working between your panels, inverter and battery. Limiting use to essential appliances helps it last longer.

  • How do I know what size battery I need?

We work it out from your bills or your existing monitoring, if you already have solar. The key is your day versus night usage split, and for an existing system, whether you send enough power back to the grid to fill the battery size you want. The on-site assessment confirms it.

  • Are there rebates or incentives available?

There is a current federal rebate, and it will gradually reduce over time until it is phased out. Because rates are set at the government's discretion, we recommend enquiring about the current rebate at the time of your quote so you have accurate figures.

  • Do you set up monitoring?

Yes. Your in-house installer sets up monitoring on the day of installation, so you can track your power use and stored energy from the start.

  • Do batteries need servicing?

A yearly service alongside your solar system is recommended to keep everything running at its best. We offer an optional yearly servicing plan to take care of this for you.
